Recent Projects

2008 - Ongoing         Nanaimo estuary flood water protection works
    • Emergency dyke repair and maintenance on Snuneymuxw I.R. #3.
    • Conducted CEAA habitat assessment and developed an environmental mitigation and compensation plan.
    • Provided environmental monitoring during the construction phase and post-construction as-built and long-term monitoring program.
    • Eelgrass transplantation, saltmarsh restoration, salmon enhancement and riparian area restoration.

2008 – Ongoing        Development of PICFI Expression of Interest

    • Facilitated understanding of PICFI to several mid and south Vancouver Island First Nation groups.
    • Obtained support for the initiative and promoted collaboration between several First Nations.
    • Developed EOIs for two First Nation PICFI groups to secure funding from DFO.

2009                            First Nation commercial fishing plan development

    • Created a comprehensive commercial fisheries plan for a mid-island First Nation.
    • Provided the business plan to DFO to secure funding through the ATP program in support of the initiative.

2006 – Ongoing        Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy program development and reporting compliance

    • Support and provide reporting compliance for two mid-island First Nations’ AFS programs
    • Assist in identifying suitable projects and deliverables that are meaningful and appropriate to the individual Nation.
    • Facilitate meetings and negotiations with DFO.
    • Provide guidance and expertise to fisheries technical staff.

2009 – Ongoing        Strait of Georgia coordinated FSC round herring and spawn on vegetation fishery

    • Promoted communication between FSC harvesters and DFO on resource status and fishing activity.
    • Provided catch data and a review on the FSC harvest to DFO and those participating Nations.
    • Conducted an evaluation of the coordinated efforts to provide potential improvements for future harvesting activity.

2006 – Ongoing        South Island First Nation shellfish economic development

    • Intertidal habitat assessment and wild harvest shellfish feasibility study.
    • Intertidal shellfish stock assessment.
    • Communal commercial harvest plan.

2004 - Ongoing         First Nation shellfish development projects

      • Assisted several mid-Island First Nations with intertidal shellfish development programs.
      • Intertidal habitat assessments and stock assessments.
      • Intertidal shellfish tenure applications.
      • Water quality investigations and programs.
      • Shellfish management strategies and communal commercial harvest plans.
      • Promoted communication between various federal and provincial agencies, other First Nations and NGOs.
